Time Change Tradition: Denver's East High School Clock Tower Adjusted





Denver's iconic East High School clock tower, a prominent feature of both the school and the Denver skyline, recently underwent an adjustment in preparation for the upcoming time change. As the autumn season settles in, daylight saving time transitions back to Mountain Standard Time, causing the clocks to "fall back" one hour at 2 a.m. on a Sunday. In anticipation of this change, a dedicated crew scaled the heights of the clock tower to ensure its accuracy.


A Towering Timepiece


The clock tower at East High School stands tall at a towering 162 feet high, commanding attention from miles away. Its prominent presence has made it a landmark in the local community and a source of pride for Denver residents.  Preservation Efforts

To maintain this piece of Denver's history, the local chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors recently paid a visit to East High School. Their mission: to perform essential maintenance on the clock and manually set it back, aligning it with Mountain Standard Time.
Around 15 years ago, the clock had ceased running and had remained inactive for nearly a decade. It was in a state of disrepair, crying out for significant restoration. The club's dedicated members took it upon themselves to breathe new life into this iconic timepiece, investing time and effort to restore it to its original condition. This act of preservation helps ensure that the clock continues to tick for generations to come.


 A Seasonal Tradition

In the United States, the practice of adjusting our clocks twice a year has become a seasonal tradition. During the springtime, we "spring ahead," moving our clocks forward by one hour. This adjustment provides more daylight during the later hours of the day, a change celebrated for its contribution to a longer and brighter evening. In contrast, as we "fall back" to standard time, we welcome more daylight in the mornings, a shift that is embraced by those who appreciate the beauty of a sunlit morning.
